Faculty Development
Educators are the lever. The TUFH Teaching Fellowship prepares faculty to build and run socially accountable health workforce education in their own institutions and regions.
Building better educators
Health workforce training only responds to community need if the people teaching it are equipped to make it do so. Faculty development is where that change takes hold, which is why TUFH runs the Teaching Fellowship: a program that prepares educators, practitioners and institutional leaders to design and deliver socially accountable health workforce education where they are.
The Fellowship is built on the Health Workforce for the Public Good (HWEPG) program, and its purpose is replication. Fellows do not just learn the material. They leave with a plan to run their own version of it locally, and TUFH mentors them while they do.
- 1Three pillarsSocial accountability, interprofessional education and collaborative care, and health workforce competency standards
- 2Six live sessions, then a projectTwo hours each, weekly, followed by mentoring while fellows build their local program
- 3Up to 20 Senior Fellows a yearA transnational cohort of leaders, innovators and educators from health workforce institutions
- 4Then it travelsCenters of Excellence use the TUFH Teaching Fellowship Playbook to run their own locally adapted version
The TUFH Teaching Fellowship
The Fellowship draws on the four HWEPG courses: Social Accountability, Appreciative Inquiry and Resilience, Interprofessional Education, and Transformative Leadership. Across six sessions, fellows move from defining a problem in their own setting through to a plan they can implement and evaluate.
What fellows will be able to do
- ✓Develop and lead a planFor a customized local course on social accountability and health workforce education
- ✓Define clear, measurable learning objectivesAnd module structures aligned to local needs
- ✓Facilitate engaging, inclusive sessionsThat foster peer learning and reflection
- ✓Use education as a lever for changeIncluding accreditation, program evaluation and institutional leadership
- ✓Guide others to develop local projectsThat address community health priorities
The project
Every fellow works on one project throughout: the design, development, implementation and evaluation plan for their own regional version of HWEPG. Assignments build it step by step, and the final module is where fellows present it. After the six sessions, mentoring continues while the program is refined and launched.
